My husband, who wrote his doctoral dissertation on music of Messiaen, says this program is only for the brave of heart..."gritty" was the word he used, I believe.

Does he mean that it's difficult to play, or to enjoy as a listener?

Last time Libby played with AXIOM, it was a Luciano Berio program, and I barely withstood the onslaught of sounds. It wasn't gritty, but it was jarring at times.

I generally like Messiaen, but Libby's former violin teacher, a lovely French woman, can't stand his music. I think I may advise my husband to stay at home that night, as he is less tolerant of--er--"grit." LOL! Thanks for the heads-up!

BTW, Libby wants to know if there's a copy of that dissertation somewhere...?
