Listen - I've got a silent type too. And when it was his turn to be out there - with, you know, Other People! ... it turned out that just because he wasn't inserting his words into the conversations didn't mean he wasn't listening to them. He did just fine - better, in fact, than some noisier sorts of people I could name - but won't.
