Libby's playing in the Sept Haikai portion.
My husband, who wrote his doctoral dissertation on music of Messiaen, says this program is only for the brave of heart..."gritty" was the word he used, I believe.
ReplyDeleteDoes he mean that it's difficult to play, or to enjoy as a listener?
ReplyDeleteLast time Libby played with AXIOM, it was a Luciano Berio program, and I barely withstood the onslaught of sounds. It wasn't gritty, but it was jarring at times.
I generally like Messiaen, but Libby's former violin teacher, a lovely French woman, can't stand his music. I think I may advise my husband to stay at home that night, as he is less tolerant of--er--"grit." LOL! Thanks for the heads-up!
Oops...just catching up here. The Prof emphasizes DIFFICULT TO LISTEN TO. Best to let your dh sit this one out.
