So, I Conditioned the Griddle Last Night

...and I tried it out, with both burners set to 350. It was hot! Without a backsplash, I am a bit afraid to use it, but meanwhile, I thought some one might have a suggestion for what temps to use when making pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches, or whatever. I'm sure I'll have to play with the temp settings and adjust to the peculiarities of this range, but I have never used a griddle like this before. A new adventure in cooking!

Also, does anyone have a great griddle recipe for anything?

Nah ... but I want to come and sit in your kitchen and watch you experiment with it!

I've never owned a fancy schmancy griddle and can give no advice. But it looks fabulous.

This is an electric griddle that sits on top of your countertop? If so, I would go with the same temperature recommended in the recipe or on the box. For Aunt Jemima or Maple Grove pancake mix I set my griddle to 375. It heats up pretty quickly. I use cooking spray to coat it. It never really comes off, so I have a well-seasoned grill. Happy cooking!

Do boxes of pancake mix have temp setting? I'll have to check. I guess I never looked before, LOL!

It's a gas griddle built in, but I like the idea of using a cookie sheet as a temporary backsplash. Pancakes for breakfast!!

But...the manufacturer says not to use spray. I hope it works well without it, being seasoned and all.

Thanks for the advice, Elizabeth!

If it says not to use spray then don't. It's probably for the reason I mentioned - it's impossible to get off without scrubbing until you destroy the finish. Are you allowed to use butter or olive oil? If you find the pancakes are sticking without an extra layer of something, maybe you can use that. Have fun!

I'll let you know tomorrow. ;)

I usually cook on my (electric) griddle at 350 degrees. It's best for grilled sandwiches and pancakes. Sometimes I cook bacon. Sometimes hamburgers if the weather is just too awful for the grill (cold rain). Mine is nonstick, but the first row of pancakes sticks unless I lightly grease it with shortening. Enjoy!

Thanks Barbara...

So far, I tired burgers at 350, and things were smokin'. In fact, it was a bit too much for the hood to handle. When I did pancakes and eggs this morning, the box of pancake mix said 400 degrees! I thought better of it, and tried 300. I made pancakes for all in about 10 minutes, perfectly, with no burning, and great flavor. I turned the griddle off for the eggs, and they cooked just right on the left-over heat. Yay!

Should have been tried burgers.
